Nothing earth shattering going on over here today. It’s Week Two in my 2016 Pledge to Purge and I’ve just rounded up the next three items to purge The weekend was glorious — rainy, gray and dreary. (If you’re curious why I take comfort in days like that, I briefly discussed it HERE.) I also love getting rid of stuff so I was in hog heaven this weekend.
(Admit it…you were surprised to see a HEDGE hog…)
The next 3 items I’m purging have been kicking around my house for collectively almost 20 years…Goodness when I think about it like that I’m shocked that I’ve waited this long to get rid of them.
I got the candlestick for a wedding present. I always planned on getting another one but never got around to it. So for the last 11 years I’ve been putting it in random places trying to make it work. I finally gave up when we moved into this house and it’s sat on my floor hidden behind a credenza in the living room.
The picture was a Goodwill find 7-8 years ago. I love the moody landscape and it went very well in my last house. But the frame and mat don’t go with the look I’m aiming for now. I’ve had it sitting in a pile with other pictures for the last 3 years thinking I’d try painting the frame and mat. Today I decided to give up the ghost and I have to admit it was freeing.
The kids gave me the mosaic vase two years ago for Christmas. I loved that they got me home decor so I’ve kept it. Initially, I had it prominently displayed but over the years I’ve slowly been moving it closer to the same hiding place I had the candlestick.
This week I decided to try making some cash by listing my items on Craig’s List. Even if I only make 10 bucks, it’s $10 more than I had last week. If you haven’t started the purge yet, you may want to consider trying to sell your items. Thinking of the new things you can buy with the $$$ you make from purging may be all the incentive you need to start getting rid of stuff.
