Guys! You’re never going to believe this. The day after I posted my couch confessional, the Craig’s List Gods smiled on me.
To recap, a few months back I bought a gorgeous Gus couch. And though it matches my inspiration room, it’s way too uncomfortable for lounging and watching TV on. (Do you need to see the inspiration room again? Probably not but I’m going to show it to you again anyway because…well…I love it.)
Anyway, after the disappointment of the Gus couch purchase, I started rethinking whether the inspiration room was attainable and also questioning whether I even wanted blue couches anymore. The universe responded and brought me this big, blue bad-ass of a couch. Here’s what the new couch looks like in my living room.
And here’s a view of my dueling blue couches taken from roughly the same vantage point as the inspiration room was photographed.
Okay, so the room has a loooong way to go until it resembles the inspiration room but at least now I have two blue couches!
The first thing that has to go is the color of the fireplace and wall above it. I love the black on the fireplace and wall but I think it may be too dark, and clearly it’s a lot different from the light airy feeling of the fireplace in the inspiration room. Originally, I’d planned to put my TV above the fireplace and thought the black would make the big, black, ugly TV box recede. But now my plan is to put the TV on the wall behind the new blue sofa (basically where the large, blue and green abstract painting is on the wall behind the couch).
The rug is also killing me. But as much as I hate this rug, the old living room rug was far worse. (Hopefully, you’ve repressed how ugly the room and rug used to be; but in case you’re a masochist, and want to see it again, you can do that here.) The black and white rug used to be in our dining room and I hated it there too. I thought I wanted a high contrast, graphic rug somewhere in my house but I think truth-be-told: it’s just not my thing. Besides, the chevron pattern trend may be all played out.
Well there you go. I am one tini-tiny step closer to my dream living room. And all it took was finally coming clean with you guys and telling you about my disappointing blue couch purchase.
P.S. The newest blue couch only cost $30! Can you believe it? A friend suggested that I take a black-light to it because at that price bad things had to have happened on it. I’ve decided to have faith in my fellow man and believe the best in the nice young woman who sold it to me and not shine a black-light on it. #ignoranceisbliss
